SKIN CARE is a digital painting that explores the exploitative nature of algorithms and their function in Artificial Intelligence by blending the human form with technology. The data collection necessary to allow algorithms to operate effectively requires extensive statistical information from individuals on a massive scale. SKIN CARE comments on the relationship between human and machine as we become more reliant on algorithmic bias to inform daily tasks and decisions. Reducing the human experience to numerical values creates a self-fulfilling evaluation system that neglects individual subjectivity and nuance. Current algorithmic models mass interpret human beings relative to their machines, therefore we are evolving homogeneously with technology.
All components of SKIN CARE, including modelling, texture and normal mapping, particle editing, composition and rendering, were done in Blender. The images on the laptop and monitor are sourced from the work of Spencer Tunick.
