Teratology Encyclopedia Spread
I have always been interested in bones, and how they represent organic figures both structurally and conceptually. I created an encyclopedia spread that explores bones as an archival system, especially those of vertebrates that are either extinct or deformed. Galerie de Paléontologie et d’Anatomie comparée, a natural history museum located in the Jardin des Plantes in Paris that houses over 1,000 animal skeletons, features many complete skeletons of extinct species, as well as deformed skeletal fragments like conjoined rodents and primates. Ideally my reader would be comfortable with themes of bones and extinction, however I would like this spread to aid in empathizing with other life forms and increase awareness of natures capacity for biodiversity.
After visiting Galerie de Paléontologie et d’Anatomie comparée, I learned that teratology refers to the study of genetic and bone abnormalities. I recorded all of the abnormal bones and bodies in the museum and illustrated them for my encyclopedia.
Infini as Pegasus
Infini as Pegasus is an eight page booklet that recounts the myth of Pegasus using exclusively the text, ligatures, and pictograms included in the Infini typeface. I aimed to create a visually compelling booklet (and poster) about a character that I believed to embody the general spirit and mood of the Infini typeface. Sandrine Nugue, the designer of Infini, was inspired by Roman capital typography models and engravings popularized between 3rd and 1st centuries B.C. I therefore wanted to pair the typeface with a figure from Greek mythology, and decided that Pegasus embodies the classic and adventurous quality of the Infini typeface.
How To Manual
As Covid restrictions lift and more people are able to freely interact with one another without masks or social distancing, I am finding myself ill at ease with this new social normalcy. I created a "How To" manual that satirizes the shared awkwardness of socializing in a post-Covid world by promoting inappropriate ways to exit conversations.
